Built in the 13th Century the East window of the South Chapel was in need of major brickwork repair. The 5 light window had lost its stability due to the lack of core between the inner and outer brick skins. A specialist glazer removed the glazed panels so the extent of the problems could be fully appreciated.
We removed the rusting iron rod that passed through the transoms and stabilized the windows with block work. Each window in turn was fitted with a stainless steel internal frame to give strength.
Reclaimed bricks to match existing mullions and transoms were refixed with lime mortar repairs.
Finally the repaired glazing panels were refixed following restoration.
