Large falling areas of Septaria, brick and tiles were deteriorating due to encroaching vegetation and water penetration. As a first step, the vegetation was removed and the surface areas treated to prevent future growth. Wall areas were then carefully dismantled and the core strengthened and consolidated. Matching Septaria, brick and tile are laid back to their original profiles. Consolidation and repointing are achieved with a mortar combination of stone and brick dust, chalk, lime putty and various grades of local sand.
